MAINE: my final frontier. These are the voyages of the Scooter Vespa 250 i.e. Super. Its continuing mission - to explore America's most heavily forested state - to roam the vast coastline, numberless lakes, and mighty mountains. To boldly go where no scooter has gone before!

It's Coming!

Snow is on the way. It is unavoidable up here in Maine, but for those who do not ski, or ride snowmobiles, or "enjoy" the bracing experience of not feeling one's toes, fingers - or worse, snow is a menace.

It can be pretty

More often, it is not pretty at all. Sometimes it's destructive

It's always too much unpleasant work

Sometimes the work is worth the effort

Other times, snow is the cause of great unhappiness

Snow freezes everything!

But - for the prepared, for those for whom riding isn't a fair-weather-only affair, for the few who understand that what's underneath won't be seen anyway, warmth is waiting, in the form of the old fashioned Union Suit!

Laugh if you must - but toasty warmth trumps ridicule every day!

  1. Oh my! (To both the snow and the suit!)

I'm positive you will make the best out of both and wind up enjoying it all. But be careful on the slippery stuff! ;)

    1. BG,

The slippery stuff is something I never ride on. In the photo, only the driveway has snow - the roads were all quite clear.

  2. I am somewhat familiar with snow though not as good at it as you obviously are. What caught my eye is that C3!!

    1. Coop,

I regret that the C3 has a new rider; the good people at Cumberland County Cycles and Scooters tell me that the lady who bought it is thrilled and rides a lot.

Having two of a good thing isn't always practical, I'm afraid.

  3. Loved it! Hilarious and beautiful at the same time!

Yes, I feel the joy and the pain (C3 rider)! LOL

    Great post!

  4. Awesome! Love that last pic. I chuckled but thought it was great.

When living in British Columbia I used to love the fresh new snow and then they'd salt the roads and it would turn to brown slush ruining the view.

  5. Yep, staying warm is the key. Damn, if only we all could look so good doing it!

  6. Martha,

Back in Bible college, as we scholars were discussing the many meanings of the word 'amen,' one older gentleman gave his own interpretation - which drew a rebuke from the too serious professor:

"Where I'm from, amen just means 'ain't that the truth' "

That last photo is a Keeper. I just love your Red outfit and also your frozen beard a few up.

Snow looks prettier where you are than where we are and I hope it stays that way. Here in BC you just never know. Sometimes we get NONE, and once every so often we get a lot, and by a lot I mean it hangs around for a couple of weeks then melts away.

    1. Bob,

My dear wife took that frozen beard photo. I'd just finished an hour and a half of frigid snow-blowing, and I really didn't feel like 'posing.'

On the other hand, I enjoyed posing for the red suit pic, while Kathy thought I was being a bit silly.

  8. Tom, grow that beard a little more, dye everything white, and people will mistake you for you-know-who :)

    1. David,

You forgot to mention that I should put a pillow in the suit to make me look fat. You see, in my body image, I'm much too skinny to be Santa!

  9. I just checked your weather forecast on NOAA. It's about like ours is. Where's all that snow we should be getting? I hope it's not a repeat of last year. Not good for many reasons. Ain't that the truth...

Like your header photo. Your new camera is treating you well and inspiring you, I think.

    Enjoy your rain.

    1. Martha,

Rain? We have had two straight days of rain; should be snow, but the temps have been in the 40s and even the 50s!

Thanks for the photo compliment - the camera helps, but inspiration comes from viewing the work of great photographers. That's why I visit your sites daily.
